Improve Your Golf Swing Plane and Hit Straighter

Having a good golf swing plane is essential in your growth as a golfer. Most Golf proffessionals and teachers will drill in having a good golf swing plane. However many beginners or amateur players ignore this as they do not know what a golf swing plane is. To explain it simply, the golf swing plan is an imaginary line that starts at the shaft of your club and goes up along that same line as you swing. The golf swing plane and the golf swing path are similar but are not to be confused.

The line of the golf swing plane is the path in which the golf club will go back on and continue to go thoughout the backswing. Placement of the club can sometimes come above the golf swing plane line as you turn in the second half of the backswing. Putting you swing on plane is of upmost importance in being able to hit the golf ball straight. By placing your swing on plane you will also improve your distance and consistency. Swinging off plane may lead to missing the golf ball entirely. A steep golf swing plane will lead to pulls or slices whilea flat one will tend to cause hooking and blocked shots.

Basically you want to visulaize the path of your club as a circle instead of a forwards and backwards motion. The golf club will rotate around your body as you make the stroke. You want to swing the golf club so that it's starting position is same as it;s impact position, if there is too large a difference between these you will often swing off plan so be wary of this.
